Radio Recliner

Keeping Apart. Staying Together.

Bridge Senior Living needed a way for their residents to stay connected while being confined to their rooms. Our solution: a pirate radio station run by real Resident DJs in in their senior living communities across the country.

CW: Vanessa Suarez AD: Katie Greco CCO: Mitch Bennett CD/ACD: Markus Beige/Denise Arnold

Cannes Lions: 1 Gold, 1 Bronze, and 3 Shortlists | Clio Awards: 2 Silver and 1 Bronze | One Show: 1 Bronze and 3 Merits | Communication Arts Award: Digital Advertising | Radio Mercury Awards: Best Use of Audio | National Addy Awards: Gold and Judge’s Choice | ATL Addys: 2 Gold, Best in Show, and Judges Choice | Webby Awards: 1 Nominee and 2 Honorees

While the residents stepped into their roles as DJs, I went to work behind the scenes to help create the show. Here’s what I learned you should expect to do if you plan to make a radio show:

  • help create the name and taglines

  • write emails, social media posts, and posters to hype up the show

  • hold back tears while interviewing some really sweet seniors

  • hold yourself together while getting yelled at by some not-so-sweet seniors

  • transcribe and timestamp the recordings and script the damn thing

  • thank your friends for sending you links to let you know the show was featured in Associated Press | Adweek | LIVE with Kelly and Ryan | NPR | AdAge | CBS This Morning | Fox | CNN | U.S. News | ABC News | Washington Post | New York Post | USA Today

  • thank your boss for saying your name to Ryan Seacrest

  • ask IT if they can fix your phone because you threw it across the room in a fit of excitement while listening to a voicemail of Mrs. Dolly Parton saying she loves the show

  • help write a case study to cram all of this in 2 minutes
